Sometimes an image, or a series of images, say it all. That was exactly the case with this mindless announcement from the College Democrats of Central College regarding the recently conducted “global climate protest”:

It’s become largely fruitless to try to hold any serious policy discussion with the left on this issue. If you doubt the wisdom of their proposals, if you press them on the demonstrable non-reliability of their assumptions, if you question the efficacy of their suggestions to, for instance ban the internal combustion engine, if you call out the duplicity of their effort to deny the third world the opportunity to lift itself out of poverty through industrialization, they’ll reflexively  label you a “denier,” and dispatch a horde of teenage and college-aged techno-bullies to silence you.

So rather than even try to engage in good faith what has unquestionably become a religious climate cult these days, the most effective strategy for normal people is to point out whenever it is possible how these activists on the left don’t even believe their own hysteria. And pictures like the one put out by these college Democrats are extremely helpful in that regard.

Leaving aside the most glaring hypocrisy of all – them loading carbon-belching busses to transport them in a cloud of exhaust and emissions straight to the climate rally – just look at what is clearly visible in these pictures:

  • Crayons (petroleum-based)
  • Cell phones made from crude oil-based plastics
  • Nail polish (petroleum-based)
  • Ballpoint pens (petroleum-based)
  • Folding wooden tables (petroleum-based)
  • Sliding wooden doors (petroleum-based)
  • T-shirts and shorts (petroleum-based)
  • Highlighters (petroleum-based)
  • Cardboard (petroleum-based)
  • Disposable coffee cups (petroleum-based)

Is it as galling as Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio, and all the other titans of Global Warming, Inc. jetting around the world on private planes, staying in one of their many homes, changing absolutely nothing about their lifestyle while demanding that poverty-stricken Africans not be given the opportunity to develop an industrialized way of life? No.

I’m not into intellect-shaming, but the lack of self-awareness and even elementary grasp on the degree of blessing fossil-fuel based energy brings to our lives is bordering on criminal. In light of that, skipping a day of school for this “protest” doesn’t seem like the wisest of moves.

Though I think part of the infatuation with his likeability and magnetic personality has to do with the advantage of his surroundings, I don’t deny that Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang is a personable fellow. Again, when you’ve surrounded yourself with people like Elizabeth Warren:

Joe Biden:

Amy Klobuchar:

and Robert O’Rourke:

…how can you not look like you ooze coolness and relatability?

But I guess I do think it’s worth making sure that we all realize that for all his supposed personal charm, Yang is in fact, well, a fascist. Or at least to be as fair as possible, he is admittedly enamored with fascist policy ideas.  I get that he doesn’t try the Steve Buscemi, “How do you do fellow kids” routine like Warren, but Yang’s personal panic over climate change has convinced him it might be a good idea for the government to take away your car.

Seriously, Mr. Hip for the Democrats thinks the government-forced elimination of car ownership in America is a reasonable step to take:

He told MSNBC host Ali Velshi that “we might not own our own cars” by 2050 to wean the United States economy off of fossil fuels, describing private car ownership as “really inefficient and bad for the environment.” Privately owned cars would be replaced by a “constant roving fleet of electric cars.”

And if putting the gun of government against your head until you give him your car keys isn’t enough, Yang thinks government should be involved in setting your diet as well. When asked at a recent townhall what would need to be done to reduce emissions going forward, he admitted:

“If you project forward on what we would need to do to reduce emissions, you would want to modify Americans’ diets.”

To be clear, “you” in this context refers to the people in charge. The government. Now, Yang did admit that diets would be hard to regulate. So apparently he’s not interested in cameras in your home and guards stationed at every grocery store. No, he has a much more thoughtful and polite approach to his fascist policy:

“You’d want those cattle producers to have to internalize those costs of emissions…so then, what that would naturally do, and some people are gonna hate this, but it would probably make those products more expensive. And that is appropriate.”

See, Yang doesn’t want to send a government official into your home to go through your refrigerator. He just wants the government to artificially inflate the costs of certain food items they don’t want you eating so that you can’t buy them.  It’s a polite, indirect way of running your life and stripping you of your freedoms.

As Yang continues to impress when compared to the Rogue’s Gallery of competitors he’s paired against, it would be good for us all to remember, that a personable, kinder, gentler fascism is still fascism.

Sometimes I assume things that I shouldn’t assume.

  • I assume that NFL fans know better than to think their team has any legitimate chance at winning the Super Bowl given that the deal between the New England Patriots and Satan is still binding.
  • I assume that people know that no matter how petulant, absurd, or outrageous President Trump’s latest tweet is, the mainstream media will so over-feverishly attack him for it that Trump will somehow end up looking like the sane one.
  • I assume that Christians know that self-proclaimed Christian author and pastor John Pavlovitz is a political activist who commandeers the Word of God for profit, not an actual minister of the Gospel of Jesus.

And it was this last false assumption that I was recently reminded of when several Christian readers reached out to me after Pavlovitz tweeted the “Lessons Trump Supporters are Teaching Their Children”:

“I don’t teach my children any of these things,” one of them wrote to me. Of course she doesn’t. Neither do countless other Christian parents like her. And they don’t condone the President when he does any of these things either.

I’ll admit that one of the most bizarre things to witness during the era of Trump has been the reversal of roles between partisans on both sides of the political spectrum. The Party of “character matters” has taken a pragmatic, “the president does things that I find off-putting, but he’s getting good things done” approach. Meanwhile, the Party of “separation of church and state” has suddenly become a Puritanized integrity police when it comes to presidents.

This is a particularly astounding reversal for public figures like Pavlovitz. Keep in mind, this is the same “Christian pastor” who counseled his flock,

“One of the greatest failings I see in my fellow Christians, is assuming that they can determine what is natural for someone else; what is their real, their truth, that they can decide for another person who they are.”

Ah yes, harkening back to that seminal moment when Jesus gave His disciples the pivotal instruction to, “Live your own truth, boys.”  You could certainly be excused if you see a bit of contradiction in Pavlovitz admonishing Christians not to determine what is right for someone else, while he himself judgmentally condemns Christians for supporting Trump because of all the “wrong things” it teaches their children.

Further, I think it’s important for Christians to turn to Scripture for their moral grounding, not the meanderings of an ear-tickling huckster who concludes that since man and woman were made in God’s image, “God is by nature transgender.” Seriously, he wrote that.

In this era, as every era, the instruction for Christians is clear:

“Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

If we do so in what we teach our children, how we vote and engage the public square, and in what counsel and instruction we heed personally, we’ll be in good hands. Whether or not either John Pavlovitz or Donald Trump approve.

On an ordinary day I would have regarded what Indiana State Attorney General Curtis Hill did as an aberration, a stroke of common sense in a society waging war against it.  Hill refused to enact a policy change made by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles that would have created a new “Gender X” option for state drivers’ licenses.

It seems to be Hill’s view that not requiring the official government license to hold official, factual information rather than the desires or wishes of the carrier is a bad idea. He has a point, of course. As others have pointed out, should the carrier be allowed to decide what eye color, hair color, weight and height they wish they had and list that? If so, what’s the point of the document in the first place?

But that’s not the way we think anymore in the West. That’s why I would have been tempted to regard Hill’s refusal to bow the knee to the mob of inmates that now runs our cultural asylum as an isolated act of courage. But signs continue to emerge that perhaps the transgender madness has pushed a bit too far and society is starting to push back.

For instance, it was just days ago that avowed leftist Piers Morgan tweeted this:

His remarks were in reference to the group of over 100 parents and students who protested the new “gender neutral” uniforms at an English school.  Morgan and company are not alone.

On this side of the Atlantic, Madeleine Kearns says there’s a rising tide of opposition to this latest manifestation of progressive liberalism’s sexual revolution:

Selina Soule, [is] the brave young athlete from Connecticut who, along with two other girls, has filed a Title IX complaint with the Education Department, which is now investigating the state’s policy allowing boys to thrash them in sports.

Back in March, 60 students (again, mostly girls) at Abraham Lincoln High School in Iowa staged a walkout after a boy was allowed to use the girls’ restrooms. Holding signs reading, for example, “We deserve our privacy,” as well as showing stick-figure images of a man and a woman found on bathroom doors, the young protestors chanted slogans such as “One over all is not fair.” Making the same complaint, students at Boyertown Area High School in Pennsylvania filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, though in May the Court declined to hear the case.

Kearns goes on to report that even the radical progressive feminist group called the Women’s Liberation Front that has spoken out recently on behalf of a funeral home that dismissed a male employee for his refusal to wear male clothing.  The WLF issued this remarkably lucid statement on the case:

“Simply, Aimee Stephens is a man. He wanted to wear a skirt while at work, and his ‘gender identity’ argument is an ideology that dictates that people who wear skirts must be women, precisely the type of sex stereotyping forbidden by [ruling legal precedent].”

There’s something oddly satisfying about seeing two groups typically skeptical (if not downright hostile) towards conservative or traditional morality – young people and feminists – suddenly come to the realization that the right may have been, well, right.

The “T” of the LGBT movement is the capstone on the upending of sexual sanity. It brings into focus the insanity that we have come to embrace in the name of personal identity. While the L, G, and B have all represented a distinct and overt rebellion to God’s moral order, the T highlights the final resting place of such rebellion: the denial of reality.

Could it be that this is the beginning of Western society noticing that? Only time will tell.

It’s fair to say that justice was anything but served recently in Warren County, Ohio.  There, just days ago, a 20-year-old woman named Brooke Skylar Richardson was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges brought against her for the death of her newborn baby that she secretly buried in her parents’ backyard.

It’s as horrific as it sounds:

  • She got pregnant her senior year of high school
  • Since the father was someone other than her boyfriend, she told no one
  • She delivered her baby girl at her home
  • She claims the baby was stillborn and she cradled her for many hours before secretly burying her
  • Prosecutors presented evidence that the baby girl was not stillborn, but rather born alive and either actively or passively murdered
  • Far from grieving the death, just days after the horrific experience, Richardson was texting people bragging about how she was getting her “belly back” and was going to look better than ever
  • Jury found her not guilty of murder, and she ended up convicted only of “gross abuse of a corpse”

And it was as I was reading various conservative voices condemning this miscarriage of justice that I came across a most confusing tweet from leftwing activist Talbert Swan:

Sitting in judgment of someone’s Christianity may seem a bit untoward for a Bishop. But any time spent on Swan’s timeline reveals it’s nothing out of the ordinary for him.  Still, while I get that Talbert isn’t exactly the epitome of a sane or rational voice in our cultural dialogue, while I understand he’s a flamethrower and provocateur by trade, this take was downright clownish even by his standards. After all,

  1. From Live Action to Matt Walsh, Allie Beth Stuckey to The Blaze, to countless other individual pro-life voices, Swan’s accusatory statement was demonstrably false.
  2. Is Mr. Swan actually upset that pro-life people object to the killing of black babies?  That seems something odd to be angry about, doesn’t it?
  3. Swan seems to not fully grasp that she was “acquitted” because of lack of evidence, not because she was white.

Truthfully, what is the most perplexing thing about Swan’s tweet is its target. Assuming Brooke murdered her full-term baby, aren’t her actions precisely what “pro-choice” activists promote and defend as a “moral right” up until the very moment of birth?  Why is Talbert Swan calling on anyone to condemn her actions when every leading presidential candidate for the political party Swan supports believes her actions constitute a female’s fundamental privilege?

Call me crazy, but when an innocent baby is murdered by her mother, shouldn’t the reaction of a so-called Bishop be to grieve it rather than find a way to politically exploit it?

If you happened to be looking for yet another example of why the American people loathe their media, MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace was happy to oblige.  Just two days ago, on the eighteenth anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, Wallace began her bizarrely-named program, Deadline: White House, by hammering President Trump:

“Not even a trip to the Pentagon to honor the victims of 9/11 on this solemn anniversary slowed the president’s steady stream of complaints and attacks today. Most of those grievances aired on his Twitter feed…I don’t have any recollection of any past president using this anniversary and sort of between events which Donald Trump did attend to honor the anniversary of 9/11, firing of tweets, attacking the press, attacking the polls and attacking his rivals on his Twitter feed and in that Oval Office meeting we showed.”

Frankly, I have no problem with that criticism. President Trump’s inability to suspend his personal and political feuds for at least 24 hours – at least to feign an interest in honoring the dead and remembering what unifies us as a country – is remarkably sad. It reveals a petulant political obsession that is anything but presidential.

But leave it to the media to find a way to outdo the President’s narcissism with their own.  The very same day that Wallace used her program to deride Trump for distracting people’s attention off the victims and heroes of 9/11, she cluelessly tweeted this:

If there were some kind of an award for missing the power, significance, and meaning of 9/11, Wallace would be a sure bet.  To suggest that the real lesson of 9/11 is the heroism of the press is, well, breathtaking – perhaps even clinical – narcissism.

Top commenter Mark Culham put it best:

Forget the “Squad,” forget Pelosi, President Trump could not ask for a better gift than his clueless foils in the American media.

An old white guy recommends taking American tax dollars to go to primarily black countries and finance the extermination of their future generations.

Colonialist? Imperialist? Racist? It would sure seem that way. And in a media culture that currently prides itself on its wokeness, the poor sap who suggested something so ignorant and so offensive should expect to be exposed and buried.

Unless that old white guy is a notoriously hypocritical socialist Senator from Vermont named Bernie Sanders, that is. In that case, everyone in media yawns and starts talking about President Trump’s sharpies.

Of the myriad examples of profound media bias that have already surfaced in the 2020 presidential election season, surely the contemptible silence of the mainstream press in the face of Sanders’ call to exterminate black kids for the sake of the planet is the worst.

If you missed it, and given the paucity of coverage you could be excused if you did, the appalling suggestion came during CNN’s absurd climate townhall. A teacher in the crowd named Martha Readyoff asked a question of Sanders that was stunningly dimwitted in its premise:

READYOFF: Good evening. Human population growth has more than doubled in the past 50 years. The planet cannot sustain this growth. I realize this is a poisonous topic for politicians, but it’s crucial to face. Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact. Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?

Again, it was a breathtakingly ignorant question. Claiming the planet is incapable of sustaining the population growth we are experiencing is unsubstantiated conjecture at best, intentional conspiracy theory based fear-mongering at worst. All quantifiable indicators, including the global poverty rate decrease, improvement of living conditions, decline in malnutrition, etc. tell us the precise opposite. So no, this isn’t an issue that is “crucial to face.” It’s not an issue at all.  But Bernie is always excited to jump on the next radical policy proposal that comes down the pike.  So he waded into the whirlpool of nonsense:

SANDERS: Well, Martha, the answer is yes. And the answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions…So I think, especially in poor countries around the world where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies, and where they can have the opportunity through birth control to control the number of kids they have, it’s something I very, very strongly support.

Now remember this is the same Sanders who not only opposes the Mexico City Policy, but also opposes the 1974 Helms Amendment. In other words, the Vermont socialist is so dedicated to the extermination of foreign babies that he opposes a common sense law forbidding the practice that has enjoyed bipartisan support for 45 years – almost as long as aborting kids has been judicially permitted in the United States.

We know that progressives and socialists like Sanders want to use the climate change issue to deprive the third world of the ability to industrialize and lift themselves out of poverty. That’s despicable enough. But to go from support for the passive extermination of foreign kids by locking them into poverty to support for the active extermination of foreign kids by American-financed abortion would be newsworthy in a sane culture.

It’s been a bad weekend for MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. I’ve always thought Hayes is a smart guy, but at the same time, he’s always demonstrated himself to be incapable of escaping the prison of his own ideology. That has always limited his effectiveness and propelled him into saying some really foolish things.  His recent mini-TED talk on the Electoral College was just the latest example.

A few observations…

  1. Hayes is far more polished and impressive sitting behind a desk reading from his prepared script on a TelePrompTer than he is working the crowd. From an audience perspective alone, his mannerisms and professorial lecture approach came across tedious, forced, and uncomfortable.

  2. It’s one of the weirdest things in the world to see an educated person like Hayes, speaking to a supposedly politically engaged live audience, and pretend as though the Electoral College is some recently-discovered, previously undetected, subversive plot by the Founding Fathers to undermine democratic rule in America.

Every year in my classes, I have my students read Federalist #68 where the brilliant Alexander Hamilton lays out the purpose, point, and genius of this novel mode of electing our president. We discuss the logic behind it, the reason it was chosen as opposed to a popular vote system, as well as the perceived shortcomings that over 200 years of history have revealed.

It’s beyond strange to pretend we are just now beginning to understand or investigate what it’s all about. Commentator David Burge had my favorite observation on this bizarre approach:

  3. Hayes’ “money line” that the Electoral College, if it weren’t in the Constitution would be unconstitutional was, well, just not bright. He argued – in the same discussion – that the Electoral College was unconstitutionally undermining the minority, while at the same time it was unconstitutionally undermining the majority. Seriously.

  4. The real issue that Hayes seemed to have involved gerrymandering and the drawing of district lines. But that has precisely nothing to do with the Electoral College.

  5. Hayes does himself no favors when he was justifiably lambasted by a wide array of conservative commentators. Predictably but disappointingly, he sought refuge behind ideological battle lines, accusing conservatives of being “#triggered” by him.

This had nothing to do with being triggered. It had everything to do with calling out bad takes for what they are…like this:3.

Chris Hayes has good things to say and most of the time he thoughtfully presents them. This wasn’t one of those times.

Not all leftists are godless. But leftist progressivism represents a godless approach to politics and social order – one in which the state is exalted to godlike status as the ultimate moral authority, and thus power (and the pursuit of power through politics) is worshipped.

This isn’t a new observation or a particularly complex realization for anyone who can think critically.  But it is a prescient and revelatory one to acknowledge when trying to make sense out of what otherwise comes across as soulless and heartless conduct committed by the left in the political sphere.

Last week, billionaire philanthropist David Koch passed away. And given his long time affiliation with libertarian and Republican causes, it set off an orgy of revelry and macabre glee in the progressive political world.  It was gross.  And what made it worse, it wasn’t confined to fringe Twitter accounts.  It was public statements from supposedly respected and respectable leftist media and political figures.

It was liberal commentator Bill Maher who crowed, “F— him…I’m glad he’s dead and I hope the end was painful.”

It was Democrat Senate hopeful Pam Keith of Florida who chirped to her large Twitter following, “Good riddance Mr. Koch. You spent a lifetime making the world uglier & perverting our democratic process. The world feels a smidge lighter without you. In the end, you can’t take a red cent of your money with you. You will face your maker standing on the impact you made. I pity you.”

Made the world uglier? About that “impact” Ms. Keith derides, I would take the time to list off all the charities that Mr. Koch funded from his own pocket, including the very cancer facility that recently treated left-wing radical Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but you can easily find all that online if you’re interested.  The truth is, I shouldn’t have to produce such a list in order to shame those who reveled in the death of another person just because they disagreed with them politically.

And what’s even more peculiar is the fact that Mr. Koch was hardly a conservative culture crusader. Despite the fact that the perpetually irresponsible New York Times labeled Koch “far right,” remember this is a man who amongst other things supported same-sex marriage and believed in a moral right to abortion. That’s a peculiar characteristic of a far-right political operative, no?

Jacob Sullum, senior editor for Reason magazine shed even greater light on this curious liberal representation of Koch:

Again, none of this should matter when it comes to whether or not we dance upon someone’s grave. David Koch was a human being, an image-bearer of God, somebody’s son. When you lack the decency to mourn with those who mourn, to respect those who hurt at the passing of a loved one, you reveal the terrific flaws in your own moral character. And in this case, you reveal just how much the political idolatry of leftist progressivism devours your soul.

Like many on the political right, I’ve spent years laughing at Joe Biden’s hapless and, let’s be honest, cartoonish political life. I don’t particularly dislike the man at all. He seems genial, friendly, and someone who tries his best to do the right thing, even if his political ideology is batty.  But you can’t compile a highlight reel of gaffes like Joe Biden and not expect people to chuckle at your relentless folly.

But with as frequent as it has become, I’m beginning to think it’s time to stop laughing.  At what point is it no longer the Biden Gaffe Machine on display, but a man whose mental acuity and faculties are slowing down immensely?  The latter is certainly not something to joke about, to make into a punchline, or to promote for political gain.

Please understand I’m not making a medical diagnosis I’m not qualified to make. I’m not feigning concern for Biden as I make an underhanded political jab. I’m suggesting that maybe it’s time the American voter – right or left – consider that Biden’s current mental condition may not be something to discount, ignore, or joke around about. Not for him, and not for the country he would lead.

It’s one thing to stumble over your words and call Barack Obama, “Barack America.” It’s one thing to be so racially and politically tone deaf that you marvel at Barack Obama as being the first articulate and “clean” black man to run for high office. Those are gaffes.  What Biden is doing now seems different to me.

These clips don’t seem like someone whose words got ahead of their brain. It seems like someone whose mind is not processing well:

Even notable leftists are recognizing this isn’t normal or good for anyone:

And this is more than just jumbled words and confused speeches from prepared texts.  Keep in mind that in the last few weeks Biden has been confusing or concocting phony situations or accounts that supposedly occurred.  He falsely claimed, “You had over 40 kids shot at Kent State on a beautiful lawn by the National Guard.” This well-known, well-documented tragedy involved the killing of 4 students and wounding of 9.

But even if that historical mistake was excusable, what about when the mistaken accounts were ones that he believes happened to him personally?  Biden has twice claimed that the Parkland school shooting victims visited him in the White House when he was Vice President. He stopped being Vice President a year before the shooting took place.  He also told this bizarre story that seems dubious at best, preposterous at worst:

I’m not suggesting anything be done to Biden besides voters wisely dismissing his designs on the presidency at the ballot box. But I’m also not sure it’s either fair or helpful to anyone to continue calling Biden’s increasingly uncomfortable errors simple gaffes. There’s quite obviously more going on there.
