As we wait and wait and wait for the continually delayed announcement of Joe Biden’s running mate, we’re hearing scuttlebutt that the former vice president may have narrowed his field down to two (or three) names.
Axios is reporting a claim by insiders close to Biden that he has narrowed his focus to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Obama-era national security adviser Susan Rice.
The Axios report looks at the factors that work in both women’s favor. For Harris, the insiders believe that her experience as a prosecutor can help the Biden ticket go after President Trump, while the team that Biden has put in place to help him select a running mate has trust in the advisers who advocate for Harris as well.
Rice’s positives include her bona fides as part of the Obama team, along with the plus of having Barack and Michelle Obama firmly on her side. However, the insiders note that Rice’s involvement in the 2012 Benghazi attacks give the GOP firepower against her.
The insiders also note that Rep. Karen Bass, also from California, is in a distant third place, but she may be fading fast thanks to her disastrous Sunday show appearances and her inability to shake her positive words for Scientology.
So, is Biden closer to a decision? And if so, when will we find out? Stay tuned…
