The coverage of Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations against Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has been interesting. Yesterday, I wrote about the campaign’s talking points over the accusations, and earlier this week CNN’s Don Lemon did whatever the polar opposite of grilling is to professional spotlight-stealer Stacey Abrams about Reade’s assertions.
But one member of the press is looking at the situation with some intellectual honesty, and he’s facing heat for it. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes explored the facts of the case on his show last night, suggesting that the allegations should be taken seriously and not just swept under the rug.
(Note: the video clip contains a description of Reade’s story that may be uncomfortable if kids are around.)
Hayes made the understatement of the year when he said that Reade’s story is “creating some serious tension within the progressive coalition. After all, Biden is the Democrats’ Great White House Hope in 2020, and he’s also causing them to confront their own #MeToo and “believe all women” rhetoric.
The mere fact that Hayes is willing to treat the Tara Reade situation with some measure of seriousness is now making him a hate magnet from the left. In fact, there’s a #FireChrisHayes hashtag campaign.
Biden partisans are out there treating Hayes like he’s hawking for Trump – or at least against Biden. Hayes has become the latest victim of leftist cancel culture.
Believe me, it goes on and on. And it’s insane.
Joe Biden is the new precious, and the left must protect him if they think they have a chance of stopping Trump’s reelection. Heaven forbid somebody treat damaging accusations against the precious seriously.
The left has picked up their pitchforks, and they’re going after Chris Hayes. We’ll see if he continues to stand up or folds under the pressure.
