I first started following sports pundit Clay Travis when he exposed the moronic ignorance and pretentious pomposity of CNN with his now infamous appearance with Brooke Baldwin.
Baldwin’s indignant reaction was beautifully savaged by Travis and many others who noted how her selective outrage didn’t seem to apply when her fellow CNN anchors were the perpetrators:
Anyone exposing the pearl-clutching fakeness of mainstream media, particularly the clownish network that CNN has willfully chosen to become, is okay in my book. Not that Clay’s contribution to the cause of liberty ends there.
I’ve also observed with tenuously-restrained giddiness as Travis has used his platform to sabotage race-baiting hucksters who divide and harm society for profit. Specifically, self-styled social and racial justice provocateur Shaun King.
When evidence surfaced that King is in fact a white man posing as black, Travis had a field day, publicly offering to pay $50,000 to charity if King would take a DNA test to prove he is at least 25% black. Shockingly, King has refused.
But all that aside, I want to go on record publicly thanking Clay Travis for the tireless efforts he has made over the course of the last 2-3 months to keep the coronavirus news from depressing and overwhelming people who listen to him. I’ve followed his Twitter feed and there were days early-on that he was almost the lone voice presenting qualifying and clarifying information to the relentless drumbeat of negativity and fear-mongering.
Scroll through it yourself and you will see daily tweets highlighting “coronavirus positivity”; and you will also see him being torn to shreds by hysterical and angry keyboard warriors. Incidentally, many of those “coronabros” (as Travis refers to them) have included mainstream media figures, including gun-control activist and sportswriter Peter King. If you have a minute, listen to their debate – one that goes very, very poorly for King.
What has been interesting is to notice that as our understanding has increased, as testing has intensified, and data has accumulated, much of what Travis has been reaffirming over and over is being validated.
Many sportswriters and talkers venture into politics often; and when they do, they rarely come down on the side of individual liberty and personal autonomy. Clay Travis is an exception to that rule, and I’m here for it.
