NEW: Markets Tank In Historic Fashion

Three weeks ago, in a blog post similar to this, we begged you to not look at your 401K because the Dow had fallen 1,100 points to 25,908. Well… we were wrong. NOW is the time to NOT look at your 401K. I know the Vanguard app is on your phone, but don’t do it. Please.

Today was the single worst day in the history of the Dow. At the opening bell, the Dow dropped 2,800 points while the S&P dropped 7%, triggering an automatic 15-minute halt in trading. This is the third time in the past 7 days this has happened.

Things got better and the Dow regained about half of its losses heading into early-afternoon. When the President’s press conference started shortly after 3 PM EST, the markets slowly but steadily began to drop. At the close of the markets, the Dow plummeted 3,000 points to 20,188.

A sobering thought for the day: There is a reasonable chance that tomorrow the Dow will fall below 20,000 for the first time since early 2017.
