Entrance polls in Iowa found that Democrat voters just want a candidate to beat Trump.
It seems that Trump isn’t just driving Democrat and

It used to be that voters gravitated towards candidates who supported
the issues that were important to the voter. But the entrance survey to the
Iowa caucus found that by an overwhelming majority of voters are more concerned
with one issue above all others: beating Donald Trump in the upcoming general
Setting aside the total clown show that the Democrats
currently find themselves in, it is interesting that not a single issue that
Democrats typically cling to, such as abortion, climate change, and
immigration, held any higher weight than finding a candidate who is able to
According to Daniel Arkin at NBC News:
When asked to choose, about two-thirds of voters participating in the caucuses — 61 percent — said they would rather see the Democratic Party nominate a candidate who “can beat Donald Trump,” while just one-third — 37 percent — want a nominee who “agrees with you on major issues.”
The problem is the weakness of the Democrat field. Biden
appears frail and old, Bernie Sanders is more or less a communist, Elizabeth
Warren can’t help but lie and be a hypocrite, and the rest of the field is uninspiring.
And while voters are looking for a winner, Democrat voter turnout in Iowa has been lower than expected. CNN reported that the expected turnout for the caucus is around 70,000 voters less than 2008, when voters rallied behind Barack Obama. It also appears that interest is waning since the 2018 midterm elections and the large Democrat gains in the house.
