A potential thaw has kind-of healed between Democrat factions

Progressives have refused to pay DCCC dues. That relationship is starting to thaw.

You’d think with a presidential election coming due soon, Democrats would be ready to unite and take down Republicans. But instead, the progressive arm of the Democrats was at war with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), threatening to challenge establishment Democrats with more progressive candidates who were working for progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Progressives were upset that the DCCC instituted a new rule to freeze out potential challengers working as campaign consultants. In an act of defiance, progressives refused to pay DCCC dues.

But apparently the stand-off has concluded, and progressives have made the decision to start working with the DCCC again. The catalyst behind the sudden change of heart? None other than Donald Trump.

One of the main culprits behind the escalation is AOC, a role she continues to embrace and relish.

According to Politico:

Ocasio-Cortez declared she had no plans to pay party dues despite raising millions of dollars last year and was instead launching her own political action committee to fund the candidates she supports directly. The Courage to Change PAC has raised a staggering $229,000 in the 11 days since its launch this month, according to figures provided by her campaign.

AOC continues to antagonize not just conservatives and those on the Right, but her fellow Democratic colleagues. Whether this helps or harms her reelection chances during the next cycle remains to be seen. It is certain however, that there are probably plenty of Democrats willing to go out of their way to remove AOC from her seat.

Withholding dues is not an uncommon practice. Dozens of House Democrats have shirked the duty this year for an array of reasons, such as fundraising prowess, dynamics in their district and members’ own relationships with DCCC.

Politico also reports that 1/3 of all Democrats have yet to pay their DCCC dues. This is a situation that bears monitoring moving forward, especially as more progressives demand Democrat party change.
