A former Deadspin and Daily Beast writer named Timothy Burke tweeted his displeasure over seeing actor Vince Vaughn chatting it up with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the National Championship Game in New Orleans, LA.
Vaughn, an apparent LSU fan, was caught on camera having a friendly conversation with them. Viewers can’t hear their exchange but it appears very cordial. Burke is shocked to see Vaughn, a self-proclaimed libertarian, being nice to the President and his wife. The horror, the horror!
While most of Hollywood leans left politically, there are plenty of conservatives and libertarians among them. Look into Friends of Abe and you’ll recognize plenty of names.
And so what if Vince Vaughn chatted with Trump? It’s not a crime to talk to a sitting U.S. President—let alone Republican ones. Good luck cancelling the “Wedding Crashers” actor.
Much to the chagrin of individuals like Burke, it shouldn’t surprise one to see “The Hacksaw Ridge” actor talking to President Trump.
In 2012, “The Break-Up” star collaborated with Glenn Beck for a reality TV series called Pursuit of Truth. And in 2013, he told radio host Adam Carolla he is more conservative than not:
VINCE VAUGHN: I think that what you come, as you get older, you just get less trust in the government running anything. And that you start to realize when you really go back and look at the Constitution and the principles of liberty, the real purpose of government is to protect the individual’s right to sort of think and pursue what they have interest in. And that when you start drawing the lines, saying, as a society, we think this is inappropriate, we’re going to pass laws to protect them from themselves and or take things away to protect themselves or move money from here to there, that you realize that you wake up with corruption and without the unintended consequences you’ll wake up with a lot of problems that didn’t exist prior. Stop making everything political and enjoy the football game. C’mon.
