Democrats have had a rough few years in the state of Georgia. Actually, make that a rough 15 years to be exact. The last time a statewide Democrat was elected was Zell Miller who left the U.S. Senate in 2005. Stacey Abrams’ strong finish spurred the familiar talking point that Georgia is a red state trending purple following many polls that projected Hillary beating Trump back in 2016 in Georgia. Today’s news does not help the purple Georgia narrative.
The bad news for Democrats came in the form of a poll that measured the Democratic fields’ chances against President Trump in the state of Georgia this November. According to Mason-Dixon, Donald Trump beats every single Democrat in the state. Here are the spreads:
(+10) Trump vs Sanders
(+14) Trump vs Warren
(+7) Trump vs Biden
(+9) Trump vs Buttigieg
The poll was conducted before Christmas which will not take into account the inevitable bump that Trump will receive for the Iran situation. Erick Erickson noted on his radio program that Mason-Dixon is one of the more reputable pollsters.
Maybe Georgia isn’t turning purple after all?
