MSNBC Had a Good Debate

I have to hand it to MSNBC. I think they admirably conducted the Democrats’ Atlanta debate. For conservatives, this was not a debate for us. This was a debate for Democrats to talk to Democrats. The issues were framed for that.

The MSNBC moderators kept things moving and did a fair job shutting down cross talk. Rachel Maddow’s question on John Bell Edwards and the Democrats’ refusal to answer it directly was really eye opening and clarifying.

On issues Democrats care about, MSNBC did well. It makes me wish we could get a Republican debate where actual Republicans ask the questions instead of liberal leaning members of the media.

Democrats needed to have conversations about Buttigieg’s racial problems and experience. They needed to have conversations about litmus tests and abortion. They needed to have conversations on how far they can go without turning people off. That’s what they got.

MSNBC should be commended.

Again, and I think this is not stated enough, this was not a debate to appeal to independents. This was a debate to secure a Democratic nomination and it was well done.
