One Israel Fund Creates Innovative Solutions to Prevent Tragedies

Since 9/11, and more recently due to senseless acts of violence, Americans have started to have some concern about random acts of terror. For fifty years, the residents of Judea and Samaria have lived with this constant threat. For hundreds of thousands of Jews living in this area that was home to the Jewish people since the days of Abraham and Sarah, on a daily basis they live with the threat of terror. Over 25 years ago many American Jews were heartbroken that their brothers and sisters were living under these conditions and decided to do something about it. They founded the organization, One Israel Fund.

Since its founding, One Israel Fund has raised more than 50 million dollars to bring safety, security and a better quality of life to those living in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley. How did they go about doing this? They met with community leaders to access the needs of the community and hired people with expertise in the areas needed.

Since 2008 Marc Provisor has been heading up its security division. Provisor had extensive experience in combating terrorist attacks as the Israeli army’s chief civilian security coordinator in the Shilo Bloc from 1996-2006 and continues to bring his extensive knowledge and talent to counterterrorism initiatives in the entire region as well as the communities along the southern border with Gaza and the northern borders with Lebanon and Syria.

Unlike many philanthropies that are reactive, One Israel Fund is proactive, identifying potential targets and creating innovative solutions to prevent tragedies from occurring.

With Hamas constantly building tunnels and providing extensive financial resources to their operatives within Israel, there is always a threat of an infiltration. It is essential that each community’s civilian security response teams have all they need to stop terrorists from succeeding. The local governments in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza border communities know they can count on One Israel Fund to get fill in gaps and get them the technology and equipment they need to keep them safe. Technology is always changing and improving so Scott Feltman, executive vice president of One Israel Fund works tirelessly with his team of hardworking professionals to continually raise money. As hard as he works, he knows it is worth it because his efforts help save lives.

Sometimes the needs are as simple as seeing to it that a community has proper outside lighting for security purposes. Sometimes those needs are designing and getting protective vests to civilian security personnel. Other times it is preventing fires from spreading by upgrading fire equipment and supplying fire trailers.

The lists of projects that One Israel Fund provides is quite extensive ranging from building playgrounds for children, community centers and synagogues to providing ambulances, lifesaving defibrillators and perimeter thermal camera systems, and the list goes on and on. Presently, Provisor is working on installing very sophisticated surveillance and communication systems along with improved equipment which are essential for keeping people safe. One Israel Fund is also raising funds to build the Binyamin Medical Center because presently, people who live in many parts of Judea and Samaria have to travel long distances for high level medical care.

The staff of One Israel Fund is extremely proud of the work that that they do and the close relationships they have forged with other agencies and local governments. They really do fill in the gaps needed from medical care to social services and the unbelievably important security services that Provisor personally oversees. According to Provisor, “One Israel Fund has changed the reality on the ground in Israel and made our people safer.”

The threat to residents on this ancient Jewish homeland has not gone away. In fact, terror is an ever-present way of life. However, the success of these planned attacks has been greatly diminished due to the generosity of Americans who care, and an organization called One Israel Fund which knows what is needed to thwart these attacks and works tirelessly to ensure that each of the 150+ communities has what it needs to protect their citizens.
