The revelation that a CIA officer is likely the whistleblower who blew the whistle on Donald Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president brought to mind something I saw shortly after the President assumed office. It made a big impression on me at the time, because it undercut the professionalism of what are supposed to our most elite—and nonpartisan—security agencies:
”Let me tell you,“ Schumer said, ”you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you. [F]or a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this.”
In other words, a sitting United States Senator flatly stated that American intelligence agencies—who are supposed to serve the chief executive to the best of their ability, no matter who that happens to be—would engage in a political vendetta against the President if they don’t happen to like him. To me, that was pretty scary stuff—an open admission, perhaps unintentional, that an unelected Deep State really did exist, and actively asserted its power with no limits and no oversight.
Which brings us to today, and the possibility that the CIA in coordination with Congressional Democrats is behind the latest effort to impeach the President. Since special counsel Robert Mueller couldn’t get the job done, they’ve now resorted to divulging the contents of Trump’s calls with foreign leaders—which has not only undermined his ability to conduct foreign policy, it has completely shattered what trust remained between Trump and the intelligence community, It also provides further evidence that the Deep State is still alive and well and out to get him—no matter how much the pundits try to dismiss such things as a conspiracy theory.
We are at a singularly dangerous time in our nation’s history, with recent events exposing the abject corruption of our once-trusted institutions in government, law enforcement and the media. We’re also seeing just how much the ruling elite really disdains our democracy, as they work tirelessly to undo the results of an election that didn’t go their way—not by trying to convince voters that their policies are best so that they can win next time around, but through intrigue and dirty tricks that make a mockery of due process and our political system.
God help us all if they succeed.
There can be little doubt that the intelligence community is actively involved in assisting the Democrats with trying to remove the President of the United States.
