Conservative media is rushing to play up reports of Hunter Biden cashing in on his dad and, woven into those stories, allegations that Joe Biden helped his son while Vice President.
The realty, in Ukraine for example, is there is ample evidence the prosecutor Biden pressured the government to toss was thoroughly corrupt and western leaders had been demanding his removal for some time.
But the right will play up the removal and Hunter Biden, etc.
On the left, the mainstream media jumped the gun. It turns out that people familiar with the President’s call with Ukraine’s President say there was no quid pro quo. Yes, this President did raise Biden. No, there were no threats made.
It also now turns out that the whistleblower had no direct knowledge of the conversation and only found out about it through the office rumor mill.
But that won’t stop the press from running the play by play and making the allegations sound way worse than they are.
Nobody trusts the other side and the press has been the gift that keeps on giving for Republicans. From the Kavanaugh story to innumerable allegations against President Trump that have repeatedly been walked back, the press deserves healthy skepticism.
The mainstream media has become reliably anti-Trump. But there’s more to it than that. The press will not also give latitude to Republicans to move away from the President. Politicians are either with the President or against the President. Consider the media assailing Mitt Romney. Romney is the first Republican to express concern over the Ukrainian revelations. But unless Romney immediately rushes out to demand impeachment, the press will not allow Romney’s concerns to breath.
The result is that the media, through its reliably anti-Trump narratives and hostility, do not allow stories to develop on their own. They ensure they develop in the way most helpful to Democrats, which causes a lot of skepticism from people who may not like the President, but understand the media is frequently not truthful.
