Philadelphia police attempting to execute a narcotics warrant in a “troubled” neighborhood yesterday got a surprise when a felon with a 12-page rap sheet, including a lengthy prison sentence for federal weapons charges, opened fire. Six officers were wounded.
Last night’s big city shooting was followed, as usual, by a self-righteous big city mayor hectoring law-abiding gun owners that they’re the real problem:
The demands are always the same: more gun control laws. Never mind the reams of gun control laws
already applicable in Philadelphia that should have kept the shooter from
getting anywhere near a firearm.
What makes this attack on police more alarming is the taunting and the projectiles thrown at them by a mob of nearby residents:
The video offers a glimpse of the hatred many African-Americans harbor towards police officers. And not just in Philadelphia. And not just officers accused of excessive force but, as here, officers who were literally risking their lives to stop an active shooter.
Even worse, Democratic candidates – often joined by the press – are campaigning off this hate. And feeding it, like Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren did by accusing Ferguson police officers of murder. And Beto O’Rourke spewing like this:
“This country was founded on white supremacy and every single institution and structure that we have in our country still reflects the legacy of the slavery and segregation and Jim Crow and suppression, even in our democracy,
These accusations by Democrats are race-based slanders, and they know it. And their words will have consequences. As Angelo Codevilla put it on Monday:
One of these days, some misdirected SWAT team will shoot it out with innocent people, with casualties on both sides, or some person unjustly ruined will take his tormentors to the grave with him. One police force will fight another. The paths to civil war are many. A generation of domestic peace is increasingly difficult to imagine.
Democrats are propagating every lie imaginable to knock Trump off balance. They’re rightfully accused of hoping for a recession before November 2020. But they’re also hoping for race riots – and inciting them. Someday, they’re going to succeed – at which point there’ll be more casualties than six wounded police officers. Perhaps Republicans – and sane independents – should start calling them out on it.
