This Is Highly Irresponsible. Why Are Some in the Media Defending It?

It appears our national politics has reached a breaking point. Fellow members of Congress and members of the press are cheering on Joaquin Castro's stunt because they want harm to befall Trump donors. Again, they can say they just want the knowledge out there, but that is a lie. We all know it is a lie. It is disingenuous to say otherwise, but members of Congress and the press are defending the lie because they too want harm done to Trump supporters. Shaming these people is actually doing something to them. But we live in a world where nuts on both sides are acting out on that knowledge. The press and Democrats have concluded that anyone who supports President Trump must be publicly shamed. This will escalate an already violent situation. There will be more Cesar Sayocs. There will be more James Hodgkinsons. We will go from a cold civil war to a hot one.The only thing Joaquin Castro's stunt will do is increase the sales of firearms.

Cesar Sayoc decided to go to war with the media. He believed the President’s rhetoric about the media being the enemy of the people and he sent pipe bombs to various media outlets. He had pictures of friends of mine in the media on his van and seemingly intended to target not just them, but their families.

It is disturbing to me that members of the media who could have been victims to an insane person like that are now defending Congressman Joaquin Castro for advertising the names and employers of people in San Antonio, TX who donated to Donald Trump. His defense of himself is that this is just public knowledge in FEC reports.

So too are the addresses of people on FEC reports. I suspect Castro would feel differently, as would these members of the media, if a conservative posted that information for Castro’s donors. I suspect that people who might comment here agreeing with Castro will be okay putting their names, employment information, and addresses in the comments. That would all be publicly available in an FEC report.

Castro says he just wants the knowledge out there. He wants these people exposed. In other words, he actually does want something to happen to them. He and the press can deny it, but that is the obvious implication.

One does not push out the names and employer information of people randomly. It is done with an intent. That intent may be to shame them, cost them business, or get them hurt, but in some way it is to cause something negative to happen. On top of that, Democrats are convinced there are more nuts on the Republican side who will commit violence. Believing that, do they really want Democrat donors exposed? And would they be okay with white nationalists sending out lists of Jewish donors and their information? This ends nowhere good.

How can any member of the media justify this?
