Eyewitness: It Was the Lawmaker Who Said “Go Back” in the Publix Check Out

Wow the tables have turned.. An eyewitness to the incident at the Publix grocery store claims it was State Rep. Erica Thomas who told Eric Sparkes to “Go back where you came from!” not the other way around.

Georgia State Rep. Erica Thomas claimed the hispanic gentleman, Eric Sparkes, called her a lazy son of a b*tch and then told her to go back where she came from. Sparkes admitted to the lazy SOB part and said it had everything to do with Thomas being in the ten items or fewer line at Publix and nothing to do with her race.

But Sparkes has vigorously denied Erica Thomas’s claim that Sparkes told her to go back to where she came from. He is now thinking of a defamation lawsuit. Thomas walked back the claim in a TV interview then doubled down on it.

Now, after multiple eyewitnesses said they did not hear Sparkes make the “go back” statement, a Publix employee eyewitness tells the police that Erica Thomas is the one who uttered the words, not Sparkes.

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

A Publix employee told a Cobb County officer that she witnessed part of the conversation and heard Thomas “continuously tell Eric Sparkes to ‘Go back where you came from!’” but did not hear Sparkes utter those words to Thomas.
