Shall we not mince words? Rep. Ilhan Omar spray painted a thin veneer of Bill of Rights onto an evil bill she had the unmitigated gall to introduce in the United States Congress. Remember the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when the swastika stenciled onto the crate containing the Ark of the Covenant burned itself away? This is what will happen to the House of Representatives should they pass such a turd, regardless of what it’s wrapped in.
BDS — Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israel — does not have at its heart some change they’d like the Israeli government to make. It’s not like sanctions against North Korea to offer more freedoms; it’s not like sanctions and boycotts against the former South African regime to allow blacks to hold office.
See, Israel already offers freedoms, much more than the nations that support BDS. Israel already allows Arabs to serve in its government. It does not prohibit Israeli Arabs from procreating or creating a demographic situation in which one day Arabs may outnumber Jews. Israel does jail terrorists who kill Israelis. Israel does defend itself from outside enemies.
The purpose of BDS is to strip Israel from its ability to defend itself, and therefore the ultimate goal is to destroy Israel itself. There’s no endgame here where Israel can bend to demands, since the demands themselves are that Israel not exist. That’s not bending, it’s suicide.
The United States does not conquer nations. We liberate nations. Whether you agree with the way we do it, or how one administration uses American influence, military force, or diplomatic means, the goal of American policies is not to destroy another nation and its people.
Except for Rep. Ilhan Omar.
We should be passing laws condemning Omar and everyone who organizes to enforce BDS. It should be illegal, as Josh Hammer noted. In fact, BDS, endorsed or practiced by government, is illegal, according to Harvard-trained lawyer David French.
Omar claimed that BDS is like American patriots protesting England by the Boston Tea Party. Not only is she historically ignorant (Americans were protesting a tax by their own government), but she’s also morally repugnant.
BDS is evil. It’s un-American. It seeks to destroy another nation. It’s immoral, and illegal. Heap all the insults you want on a person who identifies well with the man whose mark was on the movie prop in Raiders of the Lost Ark. She deserves them, and more.
