Read any of the books from people in and around the Trump Administration and you know one thing is consistent — the establishment is still seething about Donald Trump. Read, for example, Tim Alberta’s new book where some of them are willing to talk about it.
From TV green rooms to the private offices inside the West Wing, establishment Republicans have never really come to terms with the President winning and still cannot accept he beat them.
To add insult to injury, Mick Mulvaney is now the White House Chief of Staff and the House Freedom Caucus is a dominant force within the party because it has Donald Trump’s ear. The establishment, having embedded within, has to do something and it has come up with a genius plan that, as an aside, will make them very, very wealthy.
The consultants of the establishment who could not beat Trump intend to create a monopoly fundraising portal that all Republican candidates must use. They will undoubtedly punish Republicans who refuse to use it and withhold voter information from campaigns.
They are already beginning the pressure campaign.
It sounds great right now. They have the President championing it. They undoubtedly are paying some of the President’s team to come on board and help. But behind it is the establishment that lost to Trump and bitches about him in TV green rooms.
Once Trump is gone, do you really think these guys are going to want the House Freedom Caucus on their platform? Seriously? You really think the guys who were once National Republican Congressional Committee people, i.e. the ones who tried to find primary challengers to Jody Hice, Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows, etc., are going to play nice with them? Really?
The establishment consultants are working to drive their competition out of business. The competition has the most Republican accounts and is cheaper to use as well. The competition has its own back engine. The establishment’s fundraising portal does not, but Jared Kushner’s brother will make money off it.
If they are successful in wiping out the competition, do you really think they won’t abuse their monopolistic powers against the candidates they don’t like?
These guys have been fighting conservatives for years. They’ve been aligned against the House Freedom Caucus in just the past two years. Now suddenly they want everyone to get along and use their platform.
What’s the old Aesop fable about the frog and the scorpion? Can the leopard change his spots?
They sure are hoping you don’t notice.
Full disclosure: The Resurgent uses Anedot, the competitor the establishment is trying to run out of business. We’ll keep using Anedot as long as they are around.
