Can We Get Serious About Joe Biden and Roy Moore?

The problem with internet culture is that everyone is invested in clicks. The clicks don't come for reality. The clicks come for alternate reality and silly think pieces where the author is not thinking. Chris Cillizza at CNN specializes in these where he tells everyone what they already know then gets the obvious conclusions staggeringly wrong and twisted so people click purely to ridicule him. It's why the internet makes people stupid.Let's get serious about Joe Biden. He's probably going to be the nominee for the Democrats.

The clicks come for alternate reality and silly think pieces where the author is not thinking. Chris Cillizza at CNN specializes in these where he tells everyone what they already know then gets the obvious conclusions staggeringly wrong and twisted so people click purely to ridicule him.

It’s why the internet makes people stupid.

Let’s get serious about Joe Biden.

He’s probably going to be the nominee for the Democrats. All this excitement about Elizabeth Warren is not because she could beat him but because the Democrats need a race to grab attention and the media wants a ratings grab. A runaway race does not generate ratings so the media is trying to make Warren a thing. The woman is not liked by her own constituents in Massachusetts. If they don’t like her, it is hard to see how black women in South Carolina are going to gravitate to her. They aren’t.

Black women in South Carolina and elsewhere are not even gravitating to Kamala Harris. They are gravitating to Joe Biden. Why? Because he was the Vice President of the United State and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, both honors bestowed on him by America’s first black President, Barack H. Obama.

Black women are the largest demographic in America and they don’t need Barack Obama to endorse Biden to know who Barry O likes. But it is not just them. Middle class white Democrats who do not exist on Twitter or very much in the wild anymore really want a winner. So too do hispanic Democrats. They do not see Bernie as that winner. Hispanic Democrats see Bernie as advocating the very policies their families fled from. Beto’s schtick doesn’t help him nor does that Castro guy’s. Buttigieg is too white for some of the Democrats and too gay for the socially conservative minority voters who still vote Democrat.

Biden is the guy. The reason Democrats are hitting him so hard with the racism stuff is because they are trying to hurt him with the black voters who love him, but he is completely inoculated by being Barack Obama’s Vice President.

All the hysteria and excitement over the accusations is social media generated and in the real world it most likely doesn’t matter. I could be very wrong on this, but I don’t think I am. I think Biden is their nominee and the rest are vying for second place to get cabinet positions — note that I did not say Vice President. Kamala is unneeded because he’ll win California anyway. Warren and Bernie are too old. Buttigieg is a possibility except he is a white male. Look at Gretchen Whitmer, Laura Kelly, or probably Michelle Lujan Grisham to get both female and hispanic voters.

In the interests of full disclosure, not everyone here at The Resurgent agrees with me.

On Roy Moore, he is irrelevant. Alabama requires a 50% plus 1 vote to avoid a runoff. With so many candidates running to unseat Doug Jones, the only Republican to ever lose to Jones won’t make the runoff. Moore has a base of support in Alabama, but he has a ceiling now too and it is below 50%. Unlike last time, even President Trump will be against Roy Moore. Alabama voters may have loved Roy Moore once, but they love Donald Trump more and Trump says Moore should not run.

There are several conservatives in the race and a couple of establishment guys. I would look for someone like Bradley Byrne to get into the runoff and be beaten, as happened in his gubernatorial run, in a statewide runoff against a conservative. The fight right now is to be the alternative to Roy Moore among Alabama conservatives. I’m supporting Arnold Mooney, but there are others running with better name ID and I’ll have to do what I can, as will others, to get Mooney’s name ID up.

Moore is going to excite the crowd on Twitter, all of whom will want to ridicule and mock him. But he won’t get a ton of traction in Alabama this time. He burned bridges and himself. Treating him now as a serious candidate may be a fun thought exercise, but it is a thought exercise deployed in lieu of actual thinking.

Twitter is so unrepresentative of actual opinion these days. If you dwell there too much you’ll think Biden is toast and Moore will get into a runoff when, in fact, the opposite is most likely true.
