The President Should Withdraw the Nomination of Halil Suleyman (“Sul”) Ozerden or the Senate Should Reject Ozerden

Halil Suleyman (“Sul”) Ozerden is the President's nominee for the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The nominations process for circuit court nominees has largely been uneventful throughout this President's term and conservatives have widely supported his circuit court nominees. It is notable that conservatives across the political spectrum are starting to speak out against Ozerden.Ozerden currently sits on the federal bench in the Southern District of Mississippi. President George W. Bush nominated Ozerden in 2007. What is most remarkable about Ozerden is how unremarkable his track record is except for one detail.

Ozerden currently sits on the federal bench in the Southern District of Mississippi. President George W. Bush nominated Ozerden in 2007. What is most remarkable about Ozerden is how unremarkable his track record is except for one detail.

He has been overruled by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals 25% of the time and those reversals are overwhelmingly from conservative jurists — some of whom are on the conservative short list for the Supreme Court.

This should bother conservatives and the President greatly.

Carrie Severino is one of the most respected voices on judicial confirmations in America and is head of the Judicial Crisis Network. When Carrie Severino voices concerns we should all take note. She is voicing those concerns  with Ozerden.
