Given how Steven Crowder and other conservatives are being targeted by the left, I think conservatives are going to have to get better at fighting back.
While I support the right of private companies to control their platforms and decide who gets access to them, it is pretty clear an organized mob on the left is working overtime to silence conservative critics and have them demonetized and silenced.
Many of these social media giants are run by progressives who are far more responsive to progressive complaints. Likewise, many ad companies are run by progressives and are sympathetic to them. Vox Media, for example, that helped target Steven Crowder, has routinely gotten General Electric funding. That means conservatives are going to have to be more organized.
I have always hated the idea of boycotts and calls for demonetization of critics. I have always hated harassing private businesses over politics. I think it is bad. But it is clear progressives are taking advantage of that conservative reluctance to shut down and censor conservatives online. They’re trying to financially impact online conservatives in the way they have done so with talk radio, Fox News, etc.
Conservatives are not organized in the same way and do not tend to march in lock step. The conservative organizations that tend to call for boycotts tend to be socially conservative organizations that have been around so long they have an anemic ability to connect to modern conservative audiences.
We need to think about this and think how to push back. It is, at this point, obvious the left is weaponizing the mob to harass, silence, and dry up revenue from conservative pundits, sites, and causes.
