Beer Is Political: Budweiser Takes a Complex Stand for Pride Month

It’s June, so you know what that means – it’s Pride Month. I don’t know how much you may agree with me, but I think the whole Pride Month thing has gotten out of hand. I have enough of a libertarian streak to say that it’s between you and God if you believe you fall in the LGBTQETC spectrum, and I’m certainly not going to hate anyone over whom they choose to be attracted to.

But the constant reminders of the LGBT lifestyle have gotten pretty in-your-face. Corporations change their logos to incorporate some sort of rainbow for the month, and social media seems to go out of its way to remind us that LGBT people exist.

In the UK, Budweiser has stepped up to sponsor Pride in London, and they’ve done so with a series of nine – that’s right, nine – cans that express pride in different aspects of the LGBT lifestyle.

For those who lost their scorecard of LGBT color combinations, here’s what Budweiser is offering in the UK for the month of June:

Yep, it’s not enough that the rainbow represents LGBT pride; we’ve got to make sure that “people of color” get on the flag.

So. Much. Intersectionality. Good grief, it’s too much to keep up with! The main thing we need to remember from all of this is that even your beer is political these days. There are tons of products these days that you can’t buy without making some sort of political statement – whether you want to or not. Remember, you will be made to care, or at least your money will.

What beer can symbolizes being over it all?
