If Immigration Needs Debate Let’s Define the Terms Correctly

I started seeing a lot of headlines like this today:

Smart story based on a faulty premise. Yes, the President said that we are full. He made this remark speaking specifically about our southern border and the status of processing the increasing number of migrants. A portion of his remarks during his visit to Calexico:

It’s a colossal surge. It is overwhelming our immigration system and we can’t let this happen. So as I say and this is our new statement the system is full. We can’t take you anymore.

The statement was supported by Acting Director of DHS Kevin McAleenan at the end of March. At that time he was Commissioner of Customs and Border Control, speaking about the humanitarian and security crisis at our border. He also rattled off some alarming numbers regarding border crossings and CPB’s resources and facilities.

If there is going to be an honest debate about immigration the left needs to be honest about defining the terms. I know very few people on the right who are opposed to legal immigration. I will leave it to economists, the Chamber of Commerce, national security experts and immigration hawks to debate and settle on the number and qualities we require of legal immigrants. At least they would be debating an issue honestly and have a basis for negotiation.

What I will not do is pretend the left, including their media allies, is engaging in an honest debate. Even the intrepid Chris Cuomo went to the border and confirmed what President Trump, CPB, and many Americans are saying: (2nd tweet)

The illegal immigrant clearly tells the interpreter he is here for economic reasons and dragged his son along because bringing a child means he will get to stay. Under current policy he is correct. The migrant will also make an asylum claim if it increases his chances of being released into the interior. Cuomo even confirms this fact is being marketed by cartels and word of mouth south of our border.

The only debate right now is what to do about illegal immigration. The left and their allies in the media are not willing to make the distinction.

Recently a friend e-mailed me to help with networking for his girlfriend. She is here on a student visa and finishing a degree in data analytics. She learned English before she came and is targeting jobs in “big data”, a growing industry desperate for skilled employees. She also wants to be an American. She admires and wants to participate in our freedom, our economy, and our culture.

Yet it is highly likely she will be told she has to return to Communist China, where news of human rights abuses and Orwellian social policy abounds. While the man in the video will likely disappear to the interior of our country where American taxpayers will be responsible for educating his child and he can send thousands of dollars back to Central America while working here illegally.

If we need people, we need more like this young Chinese woman. If you can’t see the travesty in the contrasting stories above, it’s because you don’t want to for political reasons. And the left won’t because their political reasons are numerous.
