AOC thinks “solitary confinement” is a problem

She believes that Chelsea Manning is being tortured while in prison for defying a subpoena.

Our favorite Democratic Socialist is again in the news. No, not the almost octogenarian who honeymooned in the Soviet Union. Instead, it’s the 29-year-old know it all, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who’s decided that she not only knows every economic remedy for the country, she knows exactly the punishment criminals should or should not have.

I think we can all remember Chelsea (then Bradley) Manning and her leaking of classified government documents to Wikileaks. She served seven years for that crime, much too light in this commentator’s view, but had her prison sentence commuted by President Obama.

Recently, Manning refused to testify in front of a grand jury against Julian Assange and Wikileaks, even in the face of a subpoena.

AOC, it seems, is just a teensy bit upset that Manning is in “solitary confinement”. Apparently, AOC, her team, and Manning supporters think this is too much to bear, claiming that solitary confinement is tantamount to torture.

I won’t get into the morality of supporting a convicted traitor to the U.S., but I find it amazing that AOC would rush to the defense of Manning, especially when Manning refused to honor a lawful subpoena.

Needless to say, AOC would have benefited from doing a little bit of research instead of standing on her Twitter soapbox and spouting off nonesense. If she’d actually talked to the sheriff in the county where Manning is being detained, like any person interested in the truth would be, then she’d have gotten a straight answer.

Sheriff Dana Lawhorne (h/t The Hill and Zack Budryk) stated:

Our facility does not have ‘solitary confinement’ and inmates housed in administrative segregation for safety and security reasons still have access to social visits, books, recreation, and break time outside their cells,” Lawhorne said. “[The] federal government has never suggested to us how to treat any inmate and it is unfair to imply that there is a ‘conspiracy’ of any kind.

And just like that, another AOC narrative falls apart.
