Should This DACA Recipient Have Been Locked Up for Over a Month?

I’m as much in favor of curbing illegal immigration as anyone.

But I’m confused as to why a lady who was brought here at age 3 from Peru, graduated from Texas A&M (my alma mater), and has worked as a flight attendant in good standing would be detained by ICE for over a month.

The woman to whom that description applies, Selene Saavedra Roman, had legal status under DACA and even married a U.S. citizen.

Returning from Mexico last month, she was detained at Bush Intercontinental in Houston and held in custody in a Conroe detention center. Thankfully, according to that linked KBTX story, “U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have already granted her I-130 Petition, which puts her on the path to lawful permanent residency.”

Why this didn’t happen a long time ago is proof positive that our government is broken.

Again, I’m all for stopping illegal immigration. It’s out of control. Build a wall, step up surveillance, incentivize foreign governments to take care of the problem themselves, whatever. Get it under control! It’s out of hand.

But locking up people like Aggie graduate Selene Saavedra Roman?

That’s just stupid.
