BOOM! Smollett Charged

No sooner do I get the last piece on “Empire” actor, Jussie Smollett posted, when the latest wave in this sloppy tale emerges.

Smollett, who played his biggest role yet – victim of racist and homophobic attack – will now have to pay the price for what we now know was nothing but a hoax.

Chicago police are charging him for filing a false police report and disorderly conduct.

“Felony criminal charges have been approved by @CookCountySAO against Jussie Smollett for Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report,” spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted. “Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest.”

He should probably stick to following the script of other people, because his own script, involving two random white guys (played by Nigerian brothers) attacking him at 2am on a frozen Chicago street, shouting slurs and MAGA phrases, while looping a noose around his neck and dousing him with bleach – just wasn’t believable.

Filing a false police report in Chicago is a class 4 felony, so this may turn out quite badly for Smollett.

Last Saturday, law enforcement confirmed that they believed Smollett paid the two Nigerian brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, to stage the “attack.”

“We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,” the Chicago Police Department said in a statement following CNN’s report. “We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.”

And now the shift has landed squarely in Smollet’s lap.

What Smollett did not only preoccupied valuable law enforcement time and manpower, but it further exacerbated already raw and ragged divides among classes of people. It was not for a noble cause, but for his own selfish needs.

Let’s hope he’s made an example of.
