The Washington Post “Fact Checks” Away the Insanity in the Green New Deal

I cannot remember the Washington Post ever letting a Republican walk something back and then declaring “we won’t be awarding any Pinocchios in this kerfuffle.” This is another example of what partisan hacks fact checkers are. According to the Washington Post, the only thing that matters is the congressional resolution, not the accompanying paper to explain what it all means.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released the resolution and accompanying FAQ about it all. In the FAQ (frequently asked questions), her office made clear the so-called Green New Deal would pay people “unwilling to work” and work to get rid of planes, trains, and combustion engine cars as well as farting cows.

Then her staff claimed it was forged before walking it back and claiming it was an early draft. None of this matters, according to the Washington Post. Eagerly helping the Democrats with their damage control, the Washington Post says the resolution is it. That’s what is binding. And yet it is still bat crap crazy. According the the resolution, Congress would pay for

Upgrading all existing buildings in the United States and building new buildings to achieve maximal energy efficiency, water efficiency, safety, affordability, comfort, and durability, including through electrification.

So every single building would see upgrades. According to the accompanying paper, that includes tearing down and rebuilding old buildings.

According to the resolution, Congress would pay for

Overhauling transportation systems in the United States to eliminate pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector as much as is technologically feasible, including through investment in — (i) zero-emission vehicle infrastructure and manufacturing; (ii) clean, affordable, and accessible public transportation; and (iii) high-speed rail.

The accompanying paper says that would include ending the combustion engine vehicle in the next decade and put us all in electric cars and high speed trains.

According to the resolution, Congress would pay for

Working collaboratively with farmers and ranchers in the United States to eliminate pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector as much as is technologically feasible.

The accompanying paper says that means phasing out meat based dieting and putting us all on vegetarian diets. They want to eliminate cow farting.

It is clear the white paper, like a commentary on a passage of scripture, is going in depth to explain the parameters more fully. It is nonsensical for actual fact checkers to try to give cover to all of this. That the Washington Post is willing to do so suggests their fact checkers are not actually interested in checking facts so much as serving as apologists for the left.
