Do you remember the chatter about Congress helping to ease
restrictions on suppressors? Well, lost in all the hubbub of the recent
shutdown, Nancy Pelosi being stubborn, and AOC’s gaffes, some good news has
made it past the static and will be welcome to 2nd Amendment
Suppressors have caught a bad rap in the media in recent
years. Anti-gun Democrats and activists claim that suppressors make a gun into
a Hollywood prop: silent and better able to kill.
But those who actually understand guns and their accessories
know that suppressors merely lower the decibel level to a less painful level.
Anyone who forgets to put their hearing protection on at the gun range or taken
shots while hunting know this. Protecting hearing is the aim of suppressors,
not whatever the Left wants you to believe.
Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), John Cornyn (R-TX), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rand Paul (R-KY), Jim Risch (R-ID), and Mike Crapo (R-ID) introduced the Silencers Helping Us Save Hearing Act of 2019.
As Senator Lee put it:
Suppressors can make shooting safer for the millions of hunters and sportsmen that exercise their constitutional right to use firearms every year. The current process for obtaining a suppressor is far too expensive and burdensome. Our bill would remove these unnecessary federal regulations and make it easier for firearms users to protect themselves.
While the bill will probably fail due to the Democrat
majority in the House, it is important that there are members of Congress who
believe enough in the rights of the people to at least produce a bill.
