It looks like the book What Happened may be getting a sequel.
you thought the political landscape couldn’t get any weirder after 2016 and
2018, wait for 2020. The tried and true
Hillary Clinton may be coming back!
the right is glad to immanentize the eschaton of Hillary’s third coming, we
aren’t certain if it will even happen.
all just a matter of speculation, yet it makes for delicious political news.
The Hill and CNN reported that several Clinton insiders are suggesting that Hillary has not closed the door on a third presidential run in 2020.
“CNN White House correspondent Jeff
Zeleny said Sunday on CNN’s “Inside Politics” that Clinton told
people “as recently as this week” that she isn’t “closing the
doors to the idea of running in 2020.” “I’m told by three people that as
recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news
from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she
talked to several people, saying ‘look, I’m not closing the doors to this,’
” Zeleny said. “It does not mean that there’s a
campaign-in-waiting, or a plan in the works,” he continued. The former
secretary of State has previously not ruled out another presidential bid, saying
last October that she would “like to be president.” Zeleny added
that Clinton believes running “could be a possibility,” given that she won
the popular vote over President
Trump in 2016 and that several former Trump associates have been indicted
in special counsel Robert
Mueller‘s probe into Russian interference in that election.”
think Hillary can dabble in the idea of a 2020 run, but this type of news is meant
to test the waters. It may be the
realization that the Democratic Party of Clinton and Obama is gone. It was going away when Clinton ran in 2016. Clinton cannot be sure that the party would
embrace her. She’s about as exciting as
moldy bread. People can’t stand her because
she lost to Trump. She neglected entire
segments of the US population because it was assumed that she would win. She was entitled to the 2008 nomination and
she felt entitled to the 2016 election.
It matters not that she wants to be president.
think at this point Hillary understands that the nation has moved on from her. While
there are still hold outs who are “still with her,” the very fact that she has
refrained from announcing her candidacy shows that she is apprehensive.
Should Hillary announce her candidacy, we are faced with an odd scenario. I expect her to demand the other candidates bow to her. This is problematic because the left is so factious that demanding any particular candidate to bow out will infuriate those supporters. It’s one thing for an incumbent or front-runner to ask others to give up. It’s another thing to enter the race with a sense of entitlement to the nomination. Which is literally what Hillary would be doing. She would enter the race being owed the nomination. What happens when she asks Harris, Warren, Gillibrand, Gabbard, Castro, or Sanders to bow out? Especially Sanders! What about Booker, Biden, and O’Rourke?
is just no way for this to end well. The left has Hillary-fatigue. The right
would gladly accept this though. While
the left relitigates 2016, we could actually just have a do-over. Maybe the popular vote shtick would finally
be put to rest if Trump could win it this time.
3.0 is laughable. But we can only hope she IS serious.
