I Take Comfort In the Doctrine of Hell

This week in New York, we witnessed the Western secular death cult cheer on child sacrifice — sacrifice to the gods of materialism. We have, in the past several years, witnessed people do terrible, violent things to others from police brutality to awful economic injustice and get away with it.

The wicked prosper and the good seem to suffer. Except all of us are sinners and all of us will stand in judgment before God one day. Many reading this don’t believe that, but I believe it with every fiber of my being.

The Jesus of the Bible spoke more about hell than anyone else in all of scripture, old and new testaments combined. So many talk about Jesus preaching love, but he also preached eternal damnation and the separation of the wheat from the chaff and the lambs from the goats.

I take comfort in this. I take comfort not out of spite or because I want vengeance on others. I take comfort because we are seeing the growth of injustice and the rise of the immoral as moral. We are seeing not just an increase in persecution, but an increase in people openly getting away with cruelty, killing, robbing, etc.

And the doctrine of hell tells me that either the people getting away with evil will actually repent and turn from wickedness, or they will encounter separation from God. There are those on this planet who get away with all sorts of evil. They may escape justice on this planet, but they will not escape true justice.

There is a just God who will mete out punishment and that gives me comfort. It means I can let things go and you can let things go. God’s got this stuff too.
