And it could not have happened to a more deserving walking
If you’re just wiping the sleep from your eyes, this Friday
morning, you’re arising to the latest move from special counsel Robert Mueller’s
office. Namely, a new arrest in the ongoing Russia probe.
Roger Stone, the longtime associate and noxious pal of
Donald Trump, who saw a payday for himself in getting Donald Trump elected as
president, has been arrested by federal authorities.
Stone is indicted on seven counts, including one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering.
Law enforcement raided Stone’s house, and CNN witnessed uniformed and armed law enforcement approach his house just after 6 a.m. ET in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Roger Stone’s career goes all the way back to the Nixon era.
He’s long been considered one of the dirtiest players in the cesspool that is
politics, and anyone who has spent 5 minutes dealing with him can pick up on
that, right away.
He was booted from the Trump campaign in August 2015 for questionable
and offensive statements made to the press, but was widely considered to still
be the little voice in Trump’s ear throughout the campaign (and beyond, if we
take his word for it).
While this story is developing, Stone has been saying that
he expected to be arrested, for weeks now.
It is believed that his oft-alluded to involvement with WikiLeaks, as well as the Russian hacker known as Guccifer 2.0 is the impetus for the charges against him.
