Va. Rep Dave Brat Trailing Spanberger With Only Three Precincts Left To Report

The margin is very thin, and a recount may still be to come

With three precincts left to report, Republican incumbent Dave Brat from Virginia’s 7th House District is losing to Democrat challenger Abigail Spanberger by .6%. Brat is running for his third term after beating then House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the primary, and then winning the general election in a historically very solidly Republican district.

In Virginia, once the election results are certified by the state, losing candidates can request a recount if the margin is less than 1%. As of 11PM, Brat had not conceded, so it remains to be seen if he will ultimately request a recount once all precincts have reported and the results certified.
