If the “Enthusiasm Gap” Counts for Anything, Expect a Blue-nami.

Totally unscientific deduction here. But …

Anecdotal evidence is of course notoriously dubious, and yet, here we are. 2016 taught a lot of us that polls sometimes don’t reflect likely election outcomes nearly as well as the general so-called “enthusiasm gap” one sees on the campaign trail. Buzz ain’t everything; apparently it’s not nothing, either.

And to that end, today’s partisan pulse is definitely pumping heavier in the blue veins than the red blood. This post may age very badly, and I’m okay with that. But I feel we can confidently say that Dem voters are more energized to slow Trump’s roll than GOP voters are to fight for the status quo.

If yesterday’s social media was consumed with memes illustrating “Me voting in 2016 vs. Me voting in 2018”, today’s common themes are unprecedented polling lines and liberals waking up jazzed before their alarms went off early this morning:

Sure, some of these are in blue districts anyway. And Republican early voters have to be taken into account. All granted. But remember when journalists in 2016 underestimated all those red hats and electric MAGA rallies? Yeah.

So if you’re counting on those long lines being a 50/50 split, or a long march of Trumpeteers, a la Jericho …

Senate holds for Republicans. Longshots like Beto remain longshots. But the Bluecoats are most definitely coming…
