All they wanted to do was actually repeal Obamacare. The House Republican leadership drafted legislation that did not repeal it, but claimed it did. They got Trump to savage the conservatives in the House to try to get them to cave.
It is going to happen again.
What the President’s deal with Schumer and Pelosi does is get rid of the debt ceiling altogether, which conservatives should not support, as well as moving doing so to the same time tax reform, spending packages, and DACA will have to be passed.
What will happen is easily foreseeable. The Republican leaders will work with the Democrats on a big spending, illegal alien loving package and dare conservatives to try to improve it. When conservatives do rally to stop a bad piece of legislation, Chuck, Nancy, and Mitch will head over to the White House and explain to Ivanka and Jared that those nasty House Freedom Caucus guys are trying to shut down the government and destroy the nation’s credit by hijacking the debt ceiling.
The President will go after them yet again.
It is what happens. It is the nature of things. The President may have spared us the GOP caving to the Democrats after pretending to be heroes, but he set up conservatives to take the blame again as they try to stop bad legislation. The odds of a bad deal are massive now with such a compressed calendar.
