In the last few days a number of the conservative pundits who’ve gotten rich off the movement only to declare it has conserved nothing are now lamenting that if only Republicans carried water for Trump like the Democrats do for Hillary, Trump would surely win.
The Democrats circle the wagons around Hillary so, the argument goes, the GOP and conservatives should do the same for Trump. Let’s play that out. We only need go back less than twenty-four hours.
Yesterday, before 10 o’clock in the morning in New York City, Hillary Clinton collapsed while waiting for a van. It was caught on video. She left a 9/11 memorial service early because of “the heat.”
It was below 75°F and less than 40% humidity in New York City last morning with a breeze.
But former Hillary Clinton advisor Peter Daou rushed out to defend Hillary.
Again, at the time the incident occurred, it was below 75°F and less than 40% humidity in New York City last morning with a breeze.
But Peter Daou just had to defend his former boss. So he came up with a full of crap excuse premised on “I LIVE HERE” and therefore know what he’s talking about, even though his claim did not comport with reality even at the time he tweeted it. At that time, it had only crossed over into the lower eighties.
Likewise, despite video evidence of Hillary fainting and having two Secret Service agents grab her by the arms to keep her up right, liberal activist Touré tweeted:
The Washington Post’s Chris Cilizza, just six days ago, told conservatives they neeed to stop talking about Hillary’s health. He joined other left-of-center colleagues in the press to claim the talk of Hillary’s cough was a conspiracy theory.
Democrats across the country, starting a couple of weeks ago, began excoriating any Republican who raised the cough or any other health issue. Then, last week, we learned Hillary claimed she had a concussion that made her forget key details about her emails in dealing with the FBI.
And now we know conservatives were right to raise the cough because Hillary Clinton has pneumonia, which was first claimed to be allergies, then heat. Prayers for Mrs. Clinton as pneumonia sucks, but “it’s allergies” followed by “it’s the heat” only then to say “it’s pneumonia” raises more questions than it answers.
Again, less than twenty-four hours ago, good Democrats like Peter Daou were buying into and defending the “Hillary succumbed to the heat” story the campaign put out while liberals like Touré were claiming there was nothing out of the ordinary, despite a campaign statement suggesting otherwise.
Then the campaign, seven hours later, said it was really pneumonia.
Yes, let’s imagine if Republicans circled the wagons around Trump like Democrats circle the wagons around Hillary. We’d rightfully be called liars and we’d lack any integrity. We’d give many people even more ample grounds to distrust us than they already have in the age of Trump.
No one comes away from Trump with their integrity intact. I’d prefer to keep mine and not be a water carrier for a braying jackass.
When you carry water for a candidate, you end up all wet.
