May I Have Five Minutes of the Left’s Time?

Why do you expect me to be intellectually honest about the Khan family, but you treat Pat Smith with staggering disrespect for a woman who lost her son in Benghazi? You guys on the left are lamenting the collapse of intellectual integrity on the right and the collapse of discourse, but it has to go both ways. I've been open and honest about Trump and about the Khan family. If you can't do the same about Pat Smith, why should you ever expect anyone on the right to reciprocate?

I stood up to Donald Trump last August. I put my radio career in jeopardy. I’ve seen my family harassed. I’ve seen advertisers to my program harassed. And I’ve grown even more reticent against Trump. I thought at one point I could hold my nose for Trump, but in February wrote the piece that set off waves within my political party — the one I once served as an elected official.

I have said the moment at the Democratic Convention with the Khan family was the most powerful moment of either convention. “You have sacrificed nothing and no one,” is the most damning thing ever said about Donald Trump from a family with the credibility to say it. The Khan moment has set off a chain of events that has caused Donald Trump’s campaign to come off the rails.

So can I ask you a simple question? Why can’t you be as honest about Pat Smith as I have been about the Khan family?

Mrs. Smith lost her son in Benghazi. Hillary Clinton, to her face, blamed a YouTube video. Mrs. Smith is not alone in this story. Other parents had the same experience. The best Politifact is able to come up with is to say, “There simply is not enough concrete information in the public domain for anyone to claim as fact that Clinton did or did not lie to the Benghazi families.”

But we have Mrs. Smith. We have other parents. We have Susan Rice on national television blaming the YouTube video just as these parents claim Clinton did.

I’ve been open and honest about Trump and about the Khan family.

If you can’t do the same about Pat Smith, why should you ever expect anyone on the right to reciprocate?

Pat Smith deserves the same respect and credibility that Mr. and Mrs. Khan have been given by the media. She deserves to be believed and deserves the benefit of the doubt while Hillary Clinton does not.

If you are not willing to give her that, don’t tut-tut the state of politics in this country. You have contributed to it as well.
