A number of conservatives who kneeled before Cheeto Jesus are livid with Ted Cruz. They think Cruz should have endorsed Trump and been a team player.
Let’s review what Cruz said last night.
- He congratulated Trump on his victory.
- He told the party that it must unite.
- He told the party it must turn out in November.
- He told the voters to vote their conscience.
- He told the voters to stand up for those who stand up for the constitution.
Had the Trump campaign not organized, in advance, booing of Cruz’s speech, this would not be the story. But a large group of conservatives are even now being exposed as sell outs to a man who does not share their values. They are trying to be team players on a team that does not represent them.
Ted Cruz exposed them last night.
For the next few months we are going to see a cavalcade of stories blasting Cruz and predicting he has destroyed his chance for the Presidency in 2020. I suspect this will be the reverse of the JFK assassination polling. In 1960, Kennedy narrowly won his race against Nixon, but shortly after his assassination pollsters were hard pressed to find anyone who claimed to vote against Kennedy.
After Trump’s loss in November, pollsters are going to be hard pressed to find anyone claiming to have backed him and a lot of the very conservatives who are right now blasting Cruz for not being a team player will be claiming they knew all along he was right.
There are many conservatives who have sold their souls in the name of victory with an evil that has an “R” next to it. Cruz’s truth makes their private justifications shallow. I would not believe much of the present analysis about Cruz sabotaging his future career. History is going to look very favorable on him.
