A Much-Needed Message to the Muslim World

Yesterday, in the small Israeli “settlement” town of Kiryat Arba, 13-year-old girl Hallel-Yaffa Ariel was brutally murdered in her own bedroom by a 17-year-old Palestinian terrorist.  The photos of the blood-stained bedroom—of the victim’s still body with a teddy bear nearby—are simply devastating, on a visceral level.  As Israel’s Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu explained in one of his now-hallmark demonstrations of true moral clarity in the face of the civilized West’s genocidal jhadi enemy, “We will not let barbarism defeat humanity…We will defend and honor [Hallel’s] dignity by redoubling our efforts around the world to defeat the scourge of radical Islamist terror.”

Would that we could have such a fine leader here.

Many on the Jeremy Corbyn-style far Left, including apologists for Palestinian terrorism, responded in the way they always do: blaming the attack on Israel’s so-called “occupation” of Judea and Samaria, and likely on Zionism itself.  Even more disgusting was the reaction of the murderer’s mother, who commented on her son’s murder and subsequently being killed by authorities himself with this utter gem:

“My son is a hero.  He made me proud.  My son died as a Martyr defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.  Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, he [my son] has joined the Martyrs before him, and he is not better than them.  Allah willing, all of them will follow this path, all the youth of Palestine.  Allah be praised.”

Such reaction was not limited to the mother of the slain jihadist.  The official Facebook page of Fatah, the political party that controls the Palestinian Authority—and which refuses to hold open elections, despite the fact that present chieftain Mahmoud Abbas is in the eleventh year of his four-year term, because it knows the globally recognized Sunni Islamic terrorist group Hamas would win such an election were it openly held—immediately responded by also calling the jihadist a “martyr,” which under existing Palestinian Authority law will trigger monthly stipend payments to the jihadist’s family.

Recall that these are the same people that leftists the world over—including Barack Obama, John Kerry, and the U.S. State Department—want the Israelis to try to negotiate with in good faith on a good day, or blindly cede precious land for the chimera of peace on a bad day.

But such is the unbelievably noxious state of Palestinian civil and governmental society, as I explained in late February:

The Palestinian Authority government in Ramallah is brutally corrupt, indoctrinates its children in the most abhorrently raw and vile anti-Semitism, names street names and public monuments after jihadist martyrs, and has repeatedly turned down generous Israeli peace offers.  In Gaza, moreover, the Islamic supremacist terrorist group Hamas—which literally calls not just for the destruction of all of Israel, but also for the death of every global Jew, in its founding charter—quickly took over upon Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from the Strip in 2005, thus proving naive then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s hope that the withdrawal would allow the Palestinians to prove they could build a “Singapore on the Mediterranean” as a necessary condition to a lasting peace.

Alas, there is often some hope to be found amidst a wilderness of inhumane savagery.  Nadiya Al-Noor, a Times of Israel blogger whose biography describes herself as “a young Muslim interfaith activist with a focus on Jewish and Muslim communities” who “actively supports peace between Israel and the Palestinians,” has written a wonderful piece in the aftermath of yesterday’s tragedy.  It will probably fall on deaf ears in Ramallah, but Nadiya’s message is a just and righteous one:

I am a Muslim, and I know that when it comes to Palestinian terrorism, too many Muslims are hypocrites.  I have seen firsthand the casual, destructive anti-Semitism that plagues the Muslim community.  I have heard it from the mouths of our religious leaders, from our politicians, and even from our otherwise peaceful, liberal Muslim activists.  I have witnessed in horror the desperate attempts to justify Palestinian terrorism from people who I once respected.  Why?  Why do we decry all other types of terrorism, but bend over backwards to legitimize violence against Israeli Jews?

We blame it on “Zionism.”  We blame it on “occupation.”  We blame it on “apartheid.”… We’re not even willing to admit that Israel is a country.  We call it “Palestine.”  We refuse to call violence against Israelis “terrorism,” and we hypocritically scream, “Resistance is not a crime!”

Let me tell you something.  Stabbing pregnant women in the stomach is not “resistance.”  Shooting people at a cafe is not “resistance.”  Driving your car into pedestrians is not “resistance.”  Bombing a bus is not “resistance.”  Breaking into a woman’s home and murdering her in front of her children is not “resistance.”  And stabbing a little girl to death in the one place where she was supposed to be safe is certainly not “resistance.”  Terrorism is not resistance.  Terrorism is an unjustifiable crime…

When you make excuses for terrorists, you support terrorism. Period. Until we stand against terrorism in all its forms, against terrorists from every background, we Muslims are hypocrites. Allah does not love hypocrites.

Thank you, Nadiya.  May your words be heeded by your audience.  May more Muslims the world over follow the lead of courageous stalwarts like Dr. M Zuhdi Jasser and Ayaan Hirsi Ali by repudiating the sharia supremacist global jihad that threatens to subjugate us all, and concomitantly accepting the humanity of Israeli Jews and all others whom the Islamists deem “infidels.”  Only then will stability in the Middle East, including but hardly limited to harmony between Israel and her geopolitical foes, be within the realm of foreseeability.
