Do Evangelical Pastors Stand With Trump On ‘Forward Motion’ For Gay Issues?

As reported in Bay Windows (“Serving New England’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Communities”), Donald Trump promises “forward motion” on gay issues.

This is legitimate and accurate. It’s been verified by Dr. Michael Brown, who has written more influential words on the gay agenda and Christianity than perhaps anyone (with the exception of Ryan T. Anderson).

In an interview with NECN’s Sue O’Connell just days before the crucial New Hampshire primary, Trump cast himself as a uniter on LGBT issues.

O’Connell, who is also Bay Windows’ Publisher, identified herself as a lesbian in a question that noted the progress the LGBT community has made in the last two decades and asked Trump if voters can expect him to continue that momentum if elected

“When President Trump is in office can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?” O’Connell asked him.

“Well, you can,” Trump answered. ” And look, again, we’re going to bring people together, and thats your thing and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together and if we don’t we’re not going to have a country anymore.”

Though he now says he opposes marriage equality, Trump has demonstrated a lighter touch with LGBT issues. In a campaign that he admits is fueled by anger, Trump has taken aim at, women, muslims, people with disabilities, immigrants and prisoners of war who were captured, but not the LGBT community.

Trump’s a divider on immigration, a divider on race who refuses to repudiate white supremacist groups that endorse him (the best his campaign could offer was he “disavows all Super PACs”). He’s squishy on abortion, socialist on healthcare, and according to Ted Cruz, owes billions to the big banks from whose influence he claims to be free.

But on gay marriage, which Trump said is “the law of the land,” we can expect more “forward motion” for the LGBT cause.

I wonder how Jerry Falwell, Jr., Robert Jeffress, and other pastors who have endorsed Trump feel about that?
