Camille Paglia is a pagan, lesbian feminist. And no one that I have seen has better put into words the reality of what is happening to America due to the transgender nonsense that now envelops us.
First, Paglia honestly assesses that transgenderism is open denial of science and reality:
“I think that the transgender propagandists make wildly inflated claims about the multiplicity of gender,” she said.
“Sex reassignment surgery, even today with all of its advances, cannot in fact change anyone’s sex, okay. You can define yourself as a trans man, or a trans woman, as one of these new gradations along the scale. But ultimately, every single cell in the human body, the DNA in that cell, remains coded for your biological birth.
“So there are a lot of lies being propagated at the present moment, which I think is not in anyone’s best interest.
Pay close attention to that last line because it’s the most important. It’s one thing to tell lies that run afoul of scientific reality. But when you’re talking about transgenderism, you’re talking about precious and innocent human lives. You’re talking about scared, confused, and many times tormented humans. Lying to those individuals, even if you think you’re helping them by telling them what they want to hear, is abominable. It’s abandoning them to their delusions, telling them that there is no hope, only surrender. It’s wrong.
This isn’t science denial like pretending the dinosaurs never existed. As silly as that may be, it doesn’t hurt anyone. The transgender lies being told in our culture by media and political elites far more interested in exploiting people for the sake of a power agenda, does hurt someone. It hurts many. It facilitates confusion not just for the individual, but also for the hurting family that is desperate to help the person they love so dearly. And the tragedy is that those lies prompt terribly misguided actions that only make things worse, as Paglia noted:
“Parents are now encouraged to subject the child to procedures that I think are a form of child abuse. The hormones to slow puberty, actual surgical manipulations, etcetera. I think that this is wrong, that people should wait until they are of an informed age of consent.
“Parents should not be doing this to their children and I think that even in the teenage years is too soon to be making this leap. People change, people grow, and people adapt.”
Paglia’s assessment is confirmed by the most comprehensive, though now viciously maligned study on transgender youth conducted by two of the world’s most renowned and distinguished psychiatrists, Dr. Paul McHugh and Dr. Lawrence Mayer. That study revealed that the vast majority of young people who experience sexual or gender confusion grow out of those misperceptions in puberty, and go on to live normal adult lives. Keep in mind that such findings would be consistent with the reality of biology and physiology. But since they are at odds with prevailing political orthodoxy of the left, the study has been trashed and pilloried by those who see gender confusion as a vehicle to ride to power.
Consequently more of our children are hurt – permanently. It’s tragic.
And it may also be catastrophic for the culture. Paglia notes on her study of cultural histories throughout the world:
“I found in my study that history is cyclic, and everywhere in the world you find this pattern in ancient times: that as a culture begins to decline, you have an efflorescence of transgender phenomena. That is a symptom of cultural collapse.”
As a Christian, here’s how I explain it. God is the foundation of science, logic, reason, and morality. When a culture rebels against God, when its people decide to crown themselves gods of their own personal universes, it is the necessary consequence that they rebel against science, logic, reason, and morality. So looking at history, what dooms a civilization is its rebellion to God, but what visibly manifests are bizarre acts that deny rationality, reason, and science.
You know, like believing that sexual attraction is innate but gender is a state of mind.
That’s what we are seeing. Her being a pagan and me being a Christian, Paglia and I may not agree on the root cause of the impending cultural collapse. But we both know the symptoms of it – and America’s got them.
