It cannot be any clearer after last night. Ted Cruz, having spent only about $1,200.00 in Michigan, beat John Kasich for second place. In Maine, Texas, and Idaho, Cruz would have have hefty wins had Marco Rubio not been there. Cruz is the only candidate seriously denting Donald Trump, but the anchors of Rubio and Kasich and continuing to let Donald Trump pile up wins.
At this point, Marco Rubio winning Florida is a long shot. If Trump wins there, he gets 99 delegates.
It is time for the GOP to pick its poison: Trump or Cruz. Virtually every poll in America shows Cruz does better against Hillary. For those who say Trump brings new people to the party, the question really is how many more does the party lose? Polling shows the GOP loses badly with Trump.
But it is not just the Presidential race. Down ballot races too are put in jeopardy with a Trump nomination. The Senate, the House, Governors’ Mansions, and state legislatures are all in jeopardy with a Trump nomination.
So the GOP must choose. They can reject Trump or they can reject Cruz. They cannot reject both at this point.
The logical answer is to unite Cruz and Rubio together by tomorrow, have them barnstorm Florida as a ticket with Rubio himself telling people on television, radio, and in person to vote for Cruz. Force people to pay attention and shift momentum to Cruz.
It is the only way now to stop Trump from getting those 99 delegates and it is the only way now to change the trajectory of the race.
It needs to happen by tomorrow. The next twenty-four hours will be the difference between stopping Trump or being seen as rigging the game against Trump. The former is a clean win no one can dispute. The latter will make wounds fester.
