NEW: Trump Whiny Tweets ‘Witch Hunt’, Compares to Obama (Sigh)

By  |  May 18, 2017, 08:55am  |  @stevengberman

You knew he couldn’t stop himself, didn’t you?

At 7:39 a.m. (late for him) the president tweeted a whiny “there was never a special councel [sic] appointed” for President Obama. Waaaah. Playing the “Obama-did-it” card only works for the most dedicated Trump cultists. Everyone else simply yawns.

Thirteen minutes later, he tweeted again, this time calling the appointment of Robert Mueller “the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!” Boo hoo.

How does this square with yesterday’s statement that Trump wants a “thorough investigation,” and looks forward “to this matter concluding quickly?” It doesn’t. But the most consistent thing about our president is his utter inconsistency.

President Trump has a life-controlling addiction in need of an intervention, but nobody has the courage to stand up to him. His tweets are really signals to the army of Twitter followers and bots that follow him. Now they’ll jump on any tweets or stories that highlight the investigation like flies on dung.

And the MSM won’t be able to contain itself, so there’ll be a whole lot of dung.

Thankfully, Trump leaves tomorrow for a (hopefully, not totally embarrassing) Middle East trip. At least he’ll be incommunicado for a short time while he crosses the Atlantic. Although I suppose he can tweet from anywhere on Air Force One.

This tweeting addiction and chronic verbal diarrhea is what caused and deepened the so-called “witch hunt” to begin with. I don’t think there’s really anything to find there. But if there’s a real witch to find, Trump is only making it easier for himself to get burned at the stake.

Martyrdom doesn’t really become Trump, but he loves to play the sympathy/underdog card. He is President of the United States, but can’t deal with being seen as anything but the victim, or Rocky coming back from impossible odds. It worked for the campaign, but it’s low-rent, classless idiocy coming from the Oval Office.

As for special prosecutors, Ken Starr dogged the Clintons for nearly eight years, finally getting the impeachment he wanted, but for Matt Drudge’s work, not his own. And though Trump’s problem is loose lips, not Bill Clinton’s loose hips, he could find that Robert Mueller will be a formidable foe should he decide to be uncooperative.

But, again, without an intervention, this is what we’ll see. Donald Trump and Bill Clinton are really two of a kind, both with their life-controlling tragic flaws. Clinton managed to restrain himself, but at this point, Trump is freely indulging. Will anyone be able to stop him from self-destruction?
