Former Libertarian Presidential Nominee Supporting Ted Cruz

By  |  January 12, 2016, 01:00pm

The other day, Steve Hayes had this piece up at the Weekly Standard. In it, he noted that Cruz was running a video positing himself as the heir to the Ron Paul Revolution. You’d never even know Rand was running. Rand Paul, after all, was the fusion candidate who was going to bring libertarians and conservatives together along for a ride against the left.

It has not happened. Rand Paul’s campaign has imploded.

And now, if you scroll down in this article towards the end you will find this blurb:

Former Georgia congressman and Libertarian candidate for president Bob Barr is in New Hampshire today, campaigning for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. One of his appearances will be at a gun range, naturally. Barr sits on the board of the National Rifle Association.

That’s right. That would be former Clinton impeachment trial manager, Republican congressman turned libertarian, and Libertarian Party Presidential nominee Bob Barr. He is supporting Ted Cruz this go round.

It is pretty striking that a former Libertarian Party presidential pick has decided to go with Cruz, not Paul, particularly when Barr ran for Congress again unsuccessfully in 2014 and worked hard to get Paul supporters on board.

What a testament to the failure of Rand Paul’s campaign that the fusion candidate and heir to his father’s legacy has become Ted Cruz.
