Elizabeth Warren: The New Senate Court Jester?

By  |  April 7, 2017, 02:30pm  |  @sthomas0311

Historically the United States Senate–in contrast with “The People’s House”–has been filled with statesmen and regarded as the more civil chamber. Unfortunately those days are long gone, as the Senate is currently inhabited by the likes of Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Chuck Schumer, and Diane Feinstein. Graham and McCain can’t even treat members of their own party like statesmen, Schumer is a glorified reality TV star, and Feinstein is…well…Feinstein. But even with that deep bench of impressive “talent”, it seems that Elizabeth Warren is well on her way to filling Harry Reid’s old position as the laughingstock of the Senate. Earlier this year she took a shellacking from Ted Cruz over her theatrics in Jeff Sessions’ confirmation process, and now she’s making a fool of herself again.

Warren is leading the charge against GOP efforts to go nuclear on Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation vote.

“If [the minority party] continue(s) to filibuster these highly qualified nominees for no reason other than to nullify the president’s constitutional authority, then senators not only have the right to change the filibuster rules, senators have a duty to change the filibuster rules”

Wait…sorry…that was 2013 Elizabeth Warren. Now she thinks using the nuclear option will leave children without food, women without medical care, destroy the environment, hand over our country to greedy corporations, blah, blah, blah. It is, quite frankly, a hyper-partisan clown act. Nobody, not even most Democrats, think she is genuine.

Democrats have been playing this game for about a decade now, and they’ve taken an electoral beating for it. There’s a reason that most of the surviving Democrats in Washington have kept their head down on Gorsuch. Nobody doubts Gorsuch’s experience, his intellect, or his character. He is as mainstream as it gets. The American people have lost patience for this type of political theater in Congress, and Gorsuch is definitely not the guy that play games with.

Warren’s constituents have taken notice of her history of playing political theater, and polls don’t look good for her. A poll released in January shows that 46% of voters in Massachusetts think it’s time for a fresh face in her Senate seat. The political winds are shifting, and things don’t look good for Warren if she keeps up this nonsense. In the meantime, it sure is entertaining. Thanks for the laughs, Senator Warren.
