Church of England embraces homosexuality and transgenderism

The Church of England has just made official a major shift which has been coming for some time.

In separate votes this past weekend, the church’s General Synod approved motions denouncing gay conversion therapy and encouraging their bishops to conduct special services to celebrate the transition of members from one gender to another.

From The Times:

Jayne Ozanne, the gay activist and evangelical Synod member who proposed the condemnation of conversion therapy, called the vote a “resounding endorsement” and said: “The strength of feeling across the Synod gives me great encouragement for the future.”

The Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Rev Paul Bayes, said it underlined that LGBT orientation and identity is “something we believe is God-given”

Whether the Right Reverend Bishop is purposely promoting heresy or revealing an astounding ignorance of scripture is a matter only he and those who know him can answer.

God’s Word is crystal clear in denouncing homosexuality. On this topic there can be no doubt among serious Biblical scholars, but apparently being a scholar in the Church of England isn’t what it used to be.

For those looking for an explanation of the church’s action, it’s not hard to find, as the Times story reveals further in:

The Very Rev David Ison, dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, said concerns about the church’s record on safeguarding vulnerable people, which included a damning report about sexual abuse last month, prompted the synod to back measures declaring that LGBT people are welcome.

Did you catch it? Because of abusive sexual sin among church leaders, the synod felt compelled to bow to the LGBT community.

Further, the Very Reverend Dean would do well to study the writings of his cathedral’s namesake. Perhaps he should begin with Romans 1:26-28 (KJV):

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient”

God’s people should love and embrace homosexuals – but not homosexuality. The Bible tells us that our greatest righteousness is equivalent to a filthy rag in the sight of God, thus rejection of those caught in the clutches of this sin is just as wrong as the rejection of one caught in any type of sin.

This is an issue that the church – and not just the Church of England, but the Church in general – has brought upon itself. By rejecting individuals rather than rejecting their sin, Christians have taken a hard position that over time has softened due to familial and societal relationships. With that softening stance has come greater acceptance of those caught in the gay lifestyle – which is not a bad thing – but because the underlying sin was never dealt with, in most cases that sin is being accepted as well.

The truth – as scripture plainly tells us – is that homosexuality is sin. That’s not this writer’s opinion, or the opinion of any church. That’s God’s clear position on the issue. And any church or individual which chooses to take an opposing position is out of step with the Creator.

And there is no more dangerous place to be.
