First there was no meeting.
Then there was a meeting, but it was not with a Russian lawyer.
Then there was a meeting with a Russian lawyer, but nothing about Hillary Clinton was discussed and that’s all there was.
Then there was a former Soviet spy present.
Then the President was not told, but he might have been told, but his lawyers were told back in June.
There is no coherent, consistent strategy in the Trump organization to get this story out there. The Trump children and son-in-law are being consumed by a drip, drip, drip of their own making. In trying to guard the release of the story, they have incentivized reporters beating them to the story. The reporters have willing leakers in the White House happy to help and the Trump team less and less is able to claim these leakers are Obama plants as more and more of them are Trump hires.
In the process, they are leaving the White House in turmoil, their father’s agenda unaccomplished, and Democrats salivating.
They need to forcefully reveal the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and they need to do so in a thorough and complete manner.
Right now, to believe the Trumps is to believe so much that is not so. There is an increasing hesitancy, even among their core loyalists, to defend them because the story could change on a dime and everyone now has a sense they are withholding key details.
Based on press reports and White House leaks, it appears the Trump family has taken it upon themselves to shape their own narrative and ignore both outside counsel and outside PR experts who know how to handle this. They are only making their situation worse.
And compounding it all, the President cannot help but sing Russia’s praises at a time Russia looks like it has torpedoed his administration with or without the President’s knowledge. A fundamental aversion to truth will ruin this administration faster than any opposition attack.
